Important criteria for book club selections:
- explores basic human truths
- have three-dimensional characters who are forced to make difficult choices, under difficult situations, whose behavior sometimes makes sense and sometimes doesn't
- present the author's view of an important truth
- send a message to the reader

Resources for finding good books to read:
All of the links below lead to websites that feature book titles with brief descriptions; the majority also offer reviews written by people who have read the book too. Some of those people are individuals from literary magazines, journals, and publishing companies, and some are from the general public. Large commercial sites, like Barnes & Nobles or Amazon, feature faceted searching, which allows the user to search genres, bestseller lists, etc.
